Port Blair, Apr 12: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has sanctioned additional relief of one lakh rupees from LG’s Relief Fund to the next of kins of eight persons killed in a road accident at Diglipur on March 29, 2013. The Lt Governor had already sanctioned ex-gratia relief of one lakh rupees from LG’s Relief Fund to the next of kins of each deceased person and Rs 50,000/- to the two seriously injured persons in addition to the Administration bearing the full cost of medical treatment of the injured persons.
It may be recalled that in an unfortunate road accident at Diglipur on March 29, 2013, eight labourers were killed when a private truck laden with stone dust overturned near Swaraajgram. Out of the two seriously injured, one has since been discharged and the other is still undergoing treatment at the mainland. With two surgeries performed doctors have been successful to save her hand from amputation. The expenditure for her treatment is also being borne from LG’s Relief Fund.
