Sri Vijaya Puram, July 17: Under the vigilant leadership of Mrs. Sweta Sugdhan, IPS, Superintendent of Police for North and Middle Andaman, the North and Middle Andaman Police have taken a resolute pledge to eliminate the region as a trafficking zone for illegal substances. This commitment is evident as the police force is conducting extensive operations aimed at curbing illegal activities related to substance trafficking.
In a breakthrough during comprehensive raids conducted a few days ago, law enforcement officials seized over 1 kg of Ganja from a resident of Shantipur village, operating under the jurisdiction of Swadeshnagar Grampanchayat. Following the raid, the accused was apprehended and presented before the Honourable Court in Mayabunder, where the Honourable Judge ordered the accused to be remanded into Judicial Custody.
Furthermore, yesterday, sensitive intelligence was received at the Diglipur Police Station regarding suspicious activities involving a boy named Saurabh Das, a resident of Harinagar Grampanchayat (Billoground). Acting upon this critical input, Inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO of Diglipur Police Station, sought guidance from SP North and Middle Andaman and the Dy. SP of Diglipur. A dedicated team was quickly assembled to monitor the suspect, leading to his capture after thorough surveillance.
Upon investigation, approximately 200 grams of Ganja were recovered from Saurabh Das’s possession. During further questioning, the accused confessed that he had recently traveled to Kolkata, where he obtained the illegal substance. He further disclosed that a significant quantity of Ganja was hidden in a secret location within his residence at Harinagar (Billiground).
Following this revelation, a team from the Diglipur Police Station, under the direction of the SHO, acted swiftly to visit the suspect’s home. With the collaboration of MR. Manikan, SHO, and the police team from PS Billiground, they successfully recovered an additional 500 grams of Ganja. The narcotics were duly seized onsite and secured in the presence of two witnesses: MR. Sumanta Das, a Panchayat Member of the ward, and another villager.
The collective efforts of the North and Middle Andaman Police have been met with immense gratitude from the residents of Harinagar, particularly from the ward members who appreciate the successful measures taken to apprehend the suspect and combat illegal substance trafficking in the region.
The accused is slated to be presented before the Honourable Court in Mayabunder today, following the completion of all necessary legal procedures.
