Port Blair, Apr 03: Dr.Shashi Kumar, PCCF-cum-Principal Secretary(E&F) and (S&T), A&N Islands today (3rd April, 2013) inaugurated two Range Office buildings at Rangat & Bakultala of Middle Andaman Division, which were attended by local heads of offices, PRI members, general public and Officers, staff & workers of the Department of Forests. In his address after inaugurating the Range Office building at Rangat, he stated that Range Offices are the backbone of the Department and a proper office will enable efficient & systematic functioning. While deliberating on the role played by the Department of Environment & Forests in these islands, he stressed the importance of role of plants as producers in the eco-system for which there is no alternative. He also explained the importance of forest for mankind in various aspects like climate change, carbon sequestration apart from the direct uses like timber & other minor forest produces.
In his speech the PCCF after inaugurating the Range Office building at Bakultala said that the new facility will help the field officials in providing prompt & better service to the public. While exhorting the officials of the Department to discharge their duties & responsibilities as a public servant rather than a Govt. servant the PCCF also assured that efforts will be made to provide basic infrastructure facilities for mobility (both on land & water) and better communication for the field establishments.
DFO, Middle Andaman Dr.P.Viswakannan while welcoming the gathering informed that efforts are being taken to provide a proper working environment along with basic infrastructure to all field establishments like Beat Office, Camp Office and Range Office.
Range Officer, Rangat Mrs. Meera Nambiar and Range Officer, Bakultala Mr. Basudev Samadar proposed formal vote of thanks.
After the inauguration of the Range Offices, the PCCF-cum-Principal Secretary(E&F) & (S&T) interacted with the Pradhans, Zilla Parishad Members and other PRI members and discussed about the possible solutions for the issues raised by them.
