Port Blair, Apr 1: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC in his letter addressed to the Administrator has requested him to consider the interest of welfare of the retired Govt. Servants settled/residing in Andaman and Nicobar Islands at par with their counter parts settled and residing in mainland.
In his letter Mr. Sharma has stated that a considerable segment of the Islands population is of the Govt. Servants of A & N Administration. During the golden parts of their life span, these servants contributed their best for the development of the Islands. On getting retired/ superannuated from their services, these retired employees choose their place of residence as per their own choice and some of them prefer to stay in these Islands to lead their retired life.
These retired Govt. Servants who settle in mainland get the benefit of CGHS, if opted, and can take treatment in specialized hospitals where as this facility is not available to the retired Govt. employees residing in these Islands. But the fact remains as it is being limited health facilities available in the Islands hospitals. In fact, in the old age various ailments affect the persons who need special care but due to non availability of CGHS scheme, they get deprived from the facilities. Another fact that most of the Govt. Servants are unaware
of the CGHS facility as the same is not available in these Islands.
Hence Mr.Sharma has requested the Administrator that the facility of availing the CGHS scheme may be made available as the poor amount of Rs. 300/- per month as Health allowance, has no meaning in the age of high cost of medical services. Mr. Sharma has also stated that if the proposal is materialized, the Islands community would be benefited and on the other hand the employment generation would also come up as the CGHS services will have their own structure as far as the manpower is concerned. Mr. Sharma also hoped for a favorable action from the Lt Governor as a memorable gift in the larger interest of the retired people of the islands.
