Port Blair, Aug 09: Under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project, Diglipur, a series of events were organized across various Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2024. The events were graced by the presence of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), PRI members, Medical Officers, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM), and Community Health Officers (CHO). These dignitaries delivered insightful lectures on the importance of breastfeeding and its profound benefits for both mother and child health. The initiative was highly successful in raising awareness and promoting breastfeeding among the community.
In continuation of the activities under the ICDS Project Rangat, a series of mothers’ meetings were held where success stories on breastfeeding were shared. These meetings provided a platform for mothers to exchange their experiences, further enhancing the outreach efforts at the Panchayat level. Special emphasis was placed on ensuring complementary feeding and improving diet diversity over time, aligning with the objectives of World Breastfeeding Week 2024.
The theme for this year’s celebration, “Closing the Gap – Breastfeeding Support for All Women Giving Birth in Maternity Hospitals,” was extensively promoted in the North & Middle Andaman District. Through various sensitization programs, families and communities were made aware of the existing gaps in breastfeeding support, and efforts were made to bridge these gaps. Home visits, in collaboration with Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) of different Gram Panchayats, were conducted to reach out to malnourished children as part of the Kuposhan Mukt Panchayat (KMP) campaign.
The culmination of these activities marks a significant step forward in promoting the health and well-being of mothers and children in the district, contributing to the overarching goal of a Kuposhan Mukt Panchayats in North & Middle Andaman.
