Port Blair, Jun 12: The District Child Protection Unit of North & Middle Andaman successfully organized an awareness programme to celebrate “World Day Against Child Labour” at the Gram Panchayat Hall, Pokkadera on 12th June, 2024. This significant event was held under the esteemed guidance of Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, N&MA aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing community efforts to combat child labour.
The programme was honoured by the presence of several distinguished guests, including the Chief Guest, Mr. Dilkhush Meena (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, N&MA and the Guest of Honor Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal (IPS), Superintendent of Police (D), N&MA. Other notable attendees included Mr. Suranjan Mukhopadhyay, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Rangat.
In his keynote address, Mr. Dilkhush Meena (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, N&MA, emphasized the critical importance of ensuring that all children are free from the burdens of labour and are able to pursue their education and dreams. He stated, “We must unite in our efforts to eradicate child labour and ensure a brighter future for every child. Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and exploitation.”
Guest of Honor Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal (IPS), Superintendent of Police (D), N&MA, served as the Guest of Honor. She highlighted the essential role of law enforcement in protecting children from exploitation and stressed the need for community vigilance. “The fight against child labour requires stringent enforcement of laws and active participation from the community. Together, we can protect our children and uphold their rights,” she said.
A highlight of the event was the cultural activities and a skit performed by children. These performances creatively illustrated the negative impact of child labour and the transformative power of education. The skit and cultural activities not only entertained but also educated the audience, effectively conveying the day’s message.
To honor and encourage the participants, mementos were awarded to the children who performed in the cultural activities. The event saw participation from a diverse group of attendees, including children, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and community members, PRIs, Drivers of Auto and Jeep Association, Mayabunder all of whom played a vital role in the success of the programme.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the organizers, participants, and all those who contributed to the success of the programme.
