Port Blair, Jun 09: Director of social welfare hosted an enlightening online video conferencing session focused on the Child Helpline Number 1098.The virtual meeting brought together PRI Member, ASHA workers. SHG Member, Health workers and teachers, uniting them in a common cause to safeguard children’s rights and welfare. The session was inaugurated by Mrs. Beena Das (Helpline Administrator).
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), emphasizes that the objective of this online session is to raise awareness among the society about Child Helpline 1098 and its significance is addressing Child-related issues and concerns. He also said that every child receives timely and adequate assistance and that society as a whole is vigilant and responsive to the needs of its younger members. The Child Helpline (1098) is a step towards creating a safer environment for every child and he believes that empowers and educated community members are fundamental in bringing about this change.
Smti. Lalita Kujur, (Call Operator) explains Child Rights in India. There are 10 Fundamental Rights of a child in India: their right to survival, education, protection, participation, development, health and well- being, identity, expression, non-discrimination, and a safe environment. These basic rights of children cover various aspects of their growth, safety, and overall well-being ensuring a nurturing environment for their holistic development.
Children’s rights are economic, social and cultural rights, such as the right to education, the right to a decent standard of living, the right to health, Children’s rights includes individual rights, the right to live with his or her parents, the right to education, the right to benefit from protection, etc.
Throughout the session, engaged members participated in a robust discussion on various child related issues, underlining the broader spectrum of problems that the helpline addresses. These ranged from immediate rescue and support for children in dangerous situations, to counseling and support services for longer term issues.
