Port Blair, Mar 03: The Directorate of Social Welfare organised a Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Marathon (Drug-Free India Campaign), with active participation from the people from all walks of life. The event was aimed to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and to promote a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. The marathon commenced from Marina Park, with runners setting off on a spirited trail that concluded at the scenic Corbyn’s Cove Beach. An impressive turnout of more than 200 participants from Police Department, IRBn, CISF, Indian Army, Child Care Institution and general public from Port Blair participated.
Mr. L. Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Social Welfare) was the chief guest of the marathon. His presence was a source of motivation for all the runners and underscored the importance of the drive against drug abuse. Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), not only was present to boost the morale of the participants but also joined the ranks as a runner, setting a spirited example.
The top ten finishers were honoured. Mr. N. Eswaran from the Indian Army clinched the first prize. Special recognition was given through consolation prizes to outstanding participants- Ms. G. Bhavani, a resilient female contender, Mr. A. Ramakrishna, a senior citizen and Master Akshit Babu, a spirited young participant from Carmel School. The prizes were presented by Secretary (Social Welfare) and Director (Social Welfare). In their address, they highlighted the importance of community efforts in building a healthier society free from drugs. Nodal Officer (Prohibition) proposed the vote of thanks.
