Port Blair, Feb 11: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, Project Coordination Committee of NCUI has praised the rural womenfolk who have come out of their houses to support their family members financially and make them self dependent in the valedictory function of Seven days training programme on “value added coconut and Marine based products” organized by the National Cooperative Union of India, CEFP, AN Islands today at the office of the Golden SHG office complex at Kamraj Nagar. Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has attended the function as chief guest and distributed certificates to 28 rural women who were imparted training on preparing various eatable items through sea food and Coconut by the NCUI and members of Ministry of textiles and handicrafts, Lambaline.
Sharma in his speech Sharma has urged the gatherings that they should not let their knowledge to go waste which they got from this training rather they must apply the knowledge in practical field and earn money and become self dependent. He has also urged them to form Self help groups and told that ANS Cooperative Bank, NABARD etc are there to fund small business of SHGs with easily available loan under easy terms and conditions.
On the matter of marketing of their products, Mr. Sharma has stated that ANS Coop Bank, ANS Coopt Union/federation are working on it. It is expected that by March, 2013, the ANS Coop Bank will arrange Cooperative Mela at ITF for two days where the SHGs from Campbell bay to Diglipur will be invited to display their products before the populace of Port Blair and adjacent places.
By arranging such fair, people will know about the products prepared the SHGs and thus their produces will get a good promotion. After the completion of full fledged international Airport, the SHGs will get a wide range of market place for their products in national and international markets, since Sea food items are very much liked by the foreigners and mainlanders. Sharma has also told the gatherings that the ANS Cooperative Bank has a proposal to allot a room in its office where the SHGs may display their produces before the customers of the Bank and thus promote their sales.
“As a Chairman of the Project Coordination Committee, I want that the womenfolk, especially the rural womenfolk become financially independent, because in my opinion, if you become independent then the whole islands will march towards further development”, Sharma said. Earlier, Mr. Surendra Nath Singh, Project Officer, NCUI has welcomed the Chief Guest and the gatherings and briefed about the objectives of the Cooperative Union of India while Mr. Sunil Kumar, Investigator, Handicraft deptt, Govt of India has spoken about importance of such trainings.
