Port Blair, Feb 05: The Prabhat Phery initiative was launched on February 1, 2024, by the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) and GIZ India with the goal of raising awareness about garbage collection, segregation, and management at the household and commercial levels under the “PBMC Aapke Dwar” campaign.
The objective of the initiative is to reach each and every household and commercial establishment of the city to improve their practice in waste management.
On February 1st, 2024, PBMC launched the initiative in Ward No. 8, and on February 2nd, 2024, in Ward No. 1. The Swacchta Awareness Team (SAT), in collaboration with PBMC and GIZ officials, is conducting Prabhat Phery in the ward. The team’s objectives include raising public awareness, keeping an eye on local garbage collection and segregation, and elucidating the optimal segregation practices. The team is also identifying Swachhta Stars during the Phery who are implementing excellent practices in trash segregation.
Under this campaign, the following activities are to be done for community involvement like; House to house visit, Community games, formation of ward mobilization committees, cleaning of the GVPs, ward meetings etc.
A community game called Musical Chairs began on February 3, 2024, featuring the Fisherman community from the Fish Landing Area. Mr. Joga Rao, Ward councilor inaugurated the game. The musical chair game started with children in the age group of 10-15 and women of the fish landing area. There was huge participation in the musical group competition. The women were excited to participate in the game. Community suggested organizing more games like; chess, ludo, spoon and lemon race, rangoli competition. More than 100 people including women and kids participated in the community game. During the game, discussion was held with the community for waste collection, segregation, and management. Next Saturday, more games will be organized at that location.
The Ward Councilor, PBMC and GIZ officials organized the game in an efficient manner and greeted the community for participation.
The Port Blair Municipal Council is requesting that Port Blair residents separate their rubbish and give it to PBMC employees.
