Port Blair, Jan 14: On 13/01/2024 a credible information regarding illegal transportation of suspected venison through a car was received at PS Ograbraj, upon this Police team of PS Ograbraj was formed consisting HC/1905 Ashok Kumar Roy, PC/1013 Biplob Das, PC/2458 Ramla Begum and PC/2193 Sumitra Brahma led by SI Devanand Pathak, SHO PS Ograbraj rushed to track and apprehend the offenders. It was due to the immediate and agile actions of the police team, the suspected vehicle was spotted and the team noticed that one person from the suspected vehicle was being dropped off along with a plastic sack near Sub-centre, Chouldari and left speedily. Upon which, the police team swiftly followed the suspected person and found him attempting to hide the sack behind the Sub Center. The person was chased and was stopped and identified as Raj Kishore Malakar @ Pandey, 37 yrs, R/o Chouldari and on interrogation, he confessed that the meat was venison and that it was brought with the intention to sell it in lucrative amount. Upon this, officials of Forest Range Office, Manglutan were contacted and the suspected venison alongwith the sack was seized on the spot and seized meat was weighed which was found to be about 26.725 kgs in total. Later, the suspected venison and accused person were handed over to forest officials for further necessary action at their end.
The overall operation was conducted under the supervision and able guidance of Mrs. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, SP, South Andaman District. The general public is requested to refrain from buying or consuming restricted wildlife products, as they are prohibited by law and pose a threat to the biodiversity and also to share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to Police at 112, 03192-232100 & 03192-236641. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.
