Port Blair, Feb 2: Aspam Samrat Shipping Inc., Dubai, U.A.E., owners of M.T. ASPAM SAMRAT and all the Indian officers and crew of the vessel thanked everyone involved in helping the crew of the vessel during distress and their stay in Port Blair. The vessel was diverted to the Port of Port Blair enroute from Pasir Gudang in Malaysia to Jebal AN in U.A.E. due to unfortunate accident on board resulting in the death of Chief Officer and Seaman.
Subsequent to the arrival of the vessel at Port Blair on 24-01-2013, the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, the Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), the Superintendent of Police and his team, the Port Authority all coordinated by their local Agent, M/s. MAK Logistics Private Limited and in right earnest made all efforts to retrieve the body of the Chief Officer from the Double Bottom tank of the vessel.
After all efforts failed, the Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman) involved the Andaman & Nicobar Command. Subsequently to which the Indian Navy’s expert team after painstaking efforts, risking their own lives and with great amount of difficulty retrieved the body much to the relief of not only the Owners of the vessel and the officers & crew but also the next kith and kin of the deceased.
For the laudable efforts which went way beyond the call of duties by all agencies, the owners of the vessel thanked the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Chief of Staff, Andaman & Nicobar Command and his entire Naval unit, the Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), the Superintendent of Police (South Andaman), Harbour Master, Port Management Board, the Surveyor-in-Charge, Mercantile Marine Department for helping them at the time of distress and smoothly completing all formalities including sending the mortal remains of the crew back to their respective home-towns in mainland India.
They also thanked their local agent, M/s. MAK Logistics Pvt Ltd., who coordinated this challenging assignment. A communication from Technical Manager, ASPAM SAMRAT SHIPPING INC said.
