Port Blair, Feb 2: A meeting of all central trade unions functioning in these islands except the INTUC was held on 31st of January at Port Blair. It was decided by the meeting that a territory wide campaign will be carried out on various issues on which the central trade unions in the country will go on a two-day All India Strike on 20th and 21st February, 2013.
As a part of the campaign a series of corner meetings and public meetings at Port Blair and South Andaman areas, beginning from 11th February, 2013 will be organized.
On 21st February, 2013, a mass dharna will be organized at Tiranga Park, Port Blair from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. which will be followed by a mass procession and public meeting.
The issues that will be raised during the campaign are concrete measures to control price rise., Strict enforcement of Labour Laws., Universal social security cover for unorganized sector workers., Stopping disinvestment of public sector undertakings., No contractorisation of work of permanent nature., Minimum wages not to be less than Rs. 10,000., Removing all ceilings on eligibility of Bonus, PF, Gratuity. The meeting was attended by Representatives of CITU, BMS, HMS, BSNL Employees and NGOs’ Association, a communication from CITU stated.
