Port Blair, Jan 29: Most of the population of Andaman and Nicobar Islands banks with State Bank of India but the SBI seems to have lost it completely. The worst part of the SBI is perhaps its ATMs.
All the ATM’s are mostly dirty with its door locking facility broken and most of the ATM’s compartments are without a working air conditioning system. Even if the ACs are working, one can see water dripping into the compartment from these ACs. There are no security Guards to safeguard the ATM Counter and also the customers. This is why most of the time one can see dozens of people wrestling inside these ATM Booths.
The dustbins kept inside these ATM compartments are not cleaned regularly and also one can see dogs resting in peace inside these ATM booths.
In recent past the cases of faulty transactions in ATM’s of SBI has increased but still the SBI employees are taking things too lightly.
When contacted by Andaman Sheekha, the replies of Mr. N. L Das, Chief Manager (Admin), SBI were surprising. When asked about the air conditioning and water leakage problems in ATM’s, the Chief Manger put all the blames on public saying that “Public keep the doors of ATM open, which damages the ACs. General Public should have some sense,” he said.
When asked about the security of the ATM’s he said that SBI does not provide security guards in ATM’s, specially in Andaman’s and the policy of providing security is decided by SBI corporate office in Mumbai, however he added that the SBI’s system is extremely secure.
When asked about the Dog menace inside ATM booths he replied “Who will look after it. Earlier there used to be ‘locking door system’ but now public broke it forcefully to enter inside and after usage they do not close the doors”.
