Port Blair, Jan 3: A seminar on ‘Status of Women in Indian Society’ was organized by Humane Touch, NGO in the Tagore Government College of Education on Saturday.
Mrs. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson A&N State Social Welfare Board was the chief guest on the occasion.
Welcoming the gathering, Mrs. Ratna Kannan appreciated the work done by the young students by organizing such kind of seminars. She informed the public of the rights and powers, given to women folk. “The powers given to women should not be misused,” said Mrs. Kannan.
Earlier in the seminar, speakers presented views on different topics. To begin the seminar Mrs. Komal Anand, Secretary Inner Wheel Club (Port Blair), Ms. Scholastica, MA 1 (English) JNRM and Mrs. Sajida Zubair, Ex-President,Girls Islamic Organization presented their views on Women’s perspective and the status of women in modern period.
Further in this Seminar Mrs. Bhuneswari Devi Jaipuriar, Advocate Supreme court of india, Mr. Chinmoy Biswal, ASP(SA) and Mr. Dug Vijay Singh Deep, Dy. Director(News) AIR Port Blair highlighted their views on Crime and Punishment.
In the third session, Mr. Francis Neelam Xavier, HoD (English)JNRM, Fr. Amrit Kumar Kujur, Catholic Church, Port Blair, Swami Shuddhananda Saraswati, Resident Acharya, Chinmaya Mission and Mr. PK Mohammed Ali, Member Jammat-e-Islami Hind, Andaman spoke on crumbling ethics and moral values.
