Port Blair, Jan 28: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM today inaugurated the 60 bedded ITI Boys’ hostel at Dollygunj. The Lt Governor unveiled the plaque marking the inauguration of the hostel building. The 3-storied hostel building is constructed at a cost of Rs. 184 lakhs with 30 rooms to accommodate 60 students and has facilities such as kitchen block, dining hall and recreation hall. The Lt Governor also planted a sapling in the hostel precinct.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lt Governor stated that the inauguration of the Boys’ hostel will greatly benefit the students of far and remote islands, who can now get proper accommodation facility and suitable study environment. He directed the concerned authorities for immediately putting in place all required facilities in the hostel rooms so that the students can be shifted. Hotel culture not only provides opportunity for the students to collectively study, play sports and mingle with other students, it also helps in the all round development of the students, he said. The Lt Governor further stated that all the new buildings must be properly utilized for the purpose for which it has been constructed. He also laid emphasis on the need for proper maintenance and upkeep of the hostel building and keeping the surrounding neat and clean for a healthy atmosphere.
Earlier, welcoming the chief guest and others, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (APWD), Smt Punya Salila Srivastava gave the technical details of the new hostel building. She informed that all the boys student staying in the old hostel would be shifted in the new hostel and after renovation of the old hostel, all the girls student would be shifted there. The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Labour Commissioner, Mr. Madhusudan Baidya.
The Chief Secretary, Mr. Anand Prakash, Chairperson, SSWB, Smt. Ratna Kannan and senior officers of the administration were present on the occasion.
