Port Blair, Oct 17: “World Food Day on the theme “Water is Life, Water is Food, Leave No One Behind” was celebrated by the Department of Agriculture in association with the Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency(UTATMA) on 16/10/2023 in the Administrative Building, Diglipur.
Mr. Rajendra Kumar, Block Development Officer, Diglipur was the Chief Guest on the occasion and Mr. Manoranjan Kumar Kechri, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Diglipur was the guest of Honour on the occasion. The ZTT members from the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Fisheries and Industries Department also attended the programme.
In his inaugural speech, the Block Development Officer, Diglipur elaborated the reason for celebration of World Food Day and emphasized to promote agriculture by growing in an organic way. Further, informed that as advocated through the theme chosen.
For this year, MNRERGA is working with Amrit Sarovar to save water.
Earlier, Mrs. Arti Singh, Assistant Director (Agri) Diglipur welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Officers from allied Departments, Secretary (PACS) and the farmers present for celebration of World Food Day. She highlighted the theme of this year’s celebration and the objective. Further, urged the farmers and all to take pledge today to conserve and use water efficiently.
Mr. Dinesh Chandra Das, Agriculture Assistant detailed about the importance of water in Agriculture. Mr. Manoranjan Kumar Kechri, Chief Manager, State Bank of India briefed the facility of loan provided through Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and benefits of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana (PMFBY).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nagnath Bhojane, Senior Veterinary Officer, AH & VS Department and Dr. Vijay Prasad, Fisheries Inspector, Mr. Swapan Kumar Mallick, Industries Promotion Officer elaborated the schemes implemented by their respective Department.
Mr. Joydev Talukdar, Paid Secretary, Keralapuram Service Cooperative Society Ltd., Diglipur detailed about the KCC and PMFBY Scheme. An interactive session was conducted wherein the queries and doubts of farmers were addressed. At the end, the exhibit displayed with variety of vegetable seeds, millets, spices and PP Equipment were shown to the farmers and other dignitaries present during the celebration.
