Port Blair, Oct 17: In a letter addressed to the Minister of Civil Aviation Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Mr. Bhasker said that the airfares between the Island and Mainland Sector are so exorbitant that a common man can’t afford flying.
He added that at present the airfare from Port Blair to mainland and back is more expensive than travelling to International Destinations like Thailand and Singapore due to which the tourists are refraining from travelling to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
“The air service is also used by several patients travelling from and to Port Blair. The air-fare of last one week is around Rs. 20,000 and upwards which is not affordable by our Islanders who mostly belong to the middle and lower middle class category”, mentioned Mr. Bhasker.
Hence, he requested the Minister to fix up an air-fare for Islanders between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 7,000 so that the Islanders can avail air service at a reasonable rate.
