Port Blair, Sep 01: Celebration of Poshan Maah 1st to 30th September on Every Anganwadi Center by ICDS Under Directorate of Social Welfare, Andaman and Nicobar Administration Dr. Nitin shakya , Director informed that The Directorate of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is delighted to announce the celebration of Poshan Maah from 1st to 30th September at every Anganwadi center in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Poshan Maah, also known as the National Nutrition Month, aims to raise awareness about the significance of optimal nutrition and its impact on the overall well-being of individuals, especially children. Poshan Maah is an excellent opportunity to educate the community about the importance of a balanced diet, home-based care, and good hygiene practices for children and pregnant women.
Department of Social Welfare in association with Panchayati Raj Institutional and Line Department is organizing themes based programmes like
1. T1Exclusive Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding.
2. T2 Swasth Balak Spardha (SBS)
3. T3 Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi (PBPB)
4. T4 Improving Nutrition through Mission Life.
#Water Conservation through Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) at AWCs).
#Adopting Sustainable Food Systems by promoting Millet & Poshan Vatikas.
#Adopting Healthy Lifestyles through Ayush practices like Yoga, Local food etc.
5. T5 Meri Mati Mera Desh (MMMD).
6. T6 Tribal Focused Nutrition sensitization.
7. T7 Test, Treat, Talk Anaemia.
# Overall Nutrition (general sensitization activities)
The First 1000 days of a child, antenatal and postnatal care, early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding and complimentary feeding, the importance of inculcation of Yoga in our day to day life, leading a healthy living with yoga and maintain balanced lifestyle with dincharya, waking up at bramhamuhurta, gandusha (oil pooling), Narya Therapy , eating balanced diet, using traditional; plants like amla, shatavari, moringa, giloy to prevent anaemia in pregnant women and lactating mothers. The Anganwadi workers were advised to showcase their best practices on health and nutrition and its replication in other areas.
During Poshan Maah, various activities will be conducted at Anganwadi centers to engage children, parents, and community members. These activities include nutritional counselling sessions, awareness rallies, cooking demonstrations for healthy recipes, growth monitoring of children, and distribution of supplementary nutrition.
The Directorate of Social Welfare commends the dedication and hard work of the ICDS in organizing such a significant event. Their effort in reaching out to the community to improve the nutritional status of children is highly appreciated.
