
Port Blair, August 15: The 77th Independence Day is set to be observed with deep reverence and enthusiasm across these Islands, in sync with the nation’s commemoration, Tomorrow. The hallmark event for this significant occasion will take place at the iconic Netaji Stadium. Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Lieutenant Governor of A&N Islands and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, will lead the ceremony by hoisting the National Tricolour at 9:14 AM.
The main event’s itinerary includes a Guard of Honour inspection by the Lieutenant Governor, as well as the bestowal of Medals, Gallantry Awards, and Commendation Certificates. Subsequent to these proceedings, the Lieutenant Governor will address the gathering. The event will conclude with a rendition of the National Anthem. Before arriving at the Netaji Stadium for the main function, the Lieutenant Governor will pay his respects at the ‘Martyr’s Column’ within the National Memorial Cellular Jail.
Notably, various prominent sites in the city underwent a transformation, as historical monuments and Government buildings received a fresh coat of white paint. Extensive traffic arrangements and diversions have been put in place to ensure the seamless conduct of the pivotal 77th Independence Day celebration event.
