Port Blair, Jan 09: The First Lady of the Islands, Smt. Bhawanee Singh today inaugurated a training programme as chief guest for new batch of trainees on ‘Food Processing training’ being organised by Unnati, in association with the Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank and Directorate of Industries at the Industrial Estate Dollygunj. The function was organised for empowerment of women through self-employment.
Smt. Bhawanee Singh distributed financial assistance to Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) of women, Rs. 2 lakhs to each JLG of Mashal Junglighat, Vatri of Prothrapur, Bismi of Haddo, Sunshine of Garacharama and Om Shakti of Shadipur. The amount was sanctioned and disbursed by the A&N State Coop. Bank, Port Blair. She also distributed certificates to the successful trainees of the Food Processing training programme organised for the women Self Help Groups.
Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson A&NSWB also graced the occasion.
The function was addressed among others by Mr. C Mohammed, President Unnati, Mr. Bhagat Singh, Chairman, A&NSCB, Mr. S Athirstavel, General Manager NABARD and Mr. M N Murali, Director of Industries.
