Port Blair, Jan 08: A Farmer’s meet was organized today at Organic Horticulture Farm, Sippighat under the Coconut Development Board scheme under Lay out Demonstration Plot organized by Department of Agriculture, in association with High Value Agriculture Development Agency. The Adhyaksha, Zilla Panshad (South Andaman), Smti Abala Sammadar was the chief guest on the occasion while the Pramukh, Prothrapur Samiti, Smti Bhanumati, & Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CARI was the guest of honour of the function. Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad lit the ceremonial oil lamp to inaugurate the function. Shn M.A.Salam, Director of Agriculture, Dr. D.R.Singh, Head, Horticulture Division, CARI, were among the other dignitaries present on the occasion. The programme began by the welcome address given by Dr G.S.Pandey, Joint Director (AE).
An interaction session with Farmers, Scientists, and officers from the Department of Agriculture has been organized in which Director of Agriculture and Director, CARI have also participated. Most of the problems/ issues raised by the -farmers has been sorted out by the Director of Agriculture and Director, CARI, on the spot.
The Adhyaksha, Zilla Panshad (South Andaman), Smti Abala Sammadar, speaking on the occasion as chief guest appealed to the farmers to get maximum benefit from the schemes provided by the Department of i Agriculture under High Value Agriculture Development Agency. Pramukh, Prothrapur Samiti, Smti Bhanumati has also addressftfhe function Implements under the Lay out Demonstration Plot scheme has been distributed to beneficiaries during the function by the Chief guest while the Prizes of Flower Show were also distributed to the winners by the Chief Guest and Director of Agriculture. Altogether 100 farmers from South Andaman district have attended the function. The Programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Mantu Biswas, Joint Director (Agri).
During the discussion it was decided that the Flower, Fruit & Vegetable Show will be extended for one more day i.e; up to 9th January 2013.
