Port Blair, Jan 06: Dr. Charitharth Vivek Lal S/o Satishwar Lal, a Retired principal R/o, Supply Line, Port Blair. Dr.Vivek lal was a Carmelite & completed M.B.B.S. with flying colors from Government Medical College Nagpur.2006.
Dr. Charitharth Vivek Lal, was born and raised in Andaman Islands and received his Medical degree from Government Medical College Nagpur, India. He then moved to the United States and completed his Pediatric residency at the Women and Children Hospital, University of Alabama. His interest in Neonatology and his research career began during his residency where he studied cerebellar hemorrhages in the premature infant under the guidance of Dr. Michael Zayek and Dr. Fabian Eyal after completing successfully his Pediatric Residency, from the University of South Alabama, USA is at present the Fellow-Neonatal Perinatal Medicine at University of Texas Southwestern, Dallas (Parkland Hospital/Children’s Medical Center) and has been awarded APA ‘Young Investigator award 2012’ from American pediatrician board at New-Orleans for his hard work.The formal ceremony was held on 21st.October’2012 at New Orleans, USA.
As a neonatal fellow, Dr. Vivek has focused on both basic science and clinical research. He is interested in understanding the role of antiangiogenic and pro -inflammatory protein EMAP II in the pathogenesis of Broncho-pulmonary Dysplasia, under the mentorship of Dr. Margaret Schwarz. For this research, he was awarded the 2012 AAP Young Investigator Award and the SoPPe Travel Award at the AAP National Conference and Exhibition, New Orleans. He is involved in clinical and quality improvement projects under the guidance of Dr. Pablo Sanchez and Dr. Lina Chalak. In addition Dr.Vivek is also interested in Neonatal Resuscitation/outreach and has been at invited NRP seminars with Dr. Myra Wyckoff. Following the completion of his fellowship, Dr.Vivek plans to remain actively involved in resident and fellow education and aspires to be a successful academic Neo-natologist and researcher.
The awards and recongnition received by Dr. Vivek Lal has helped to bring these islands in the National and International level. Dr. CHARITHARTH VIVEK LAL attributes his career successes to the excellent educational foundation laid at the school level in these Islands. In addition, hard work, unconditional support from parents and his spouse Dr Allury Arora (also from Port Blair, D/o Mr. Ashok Arora) has helped him reach these heights.
Young Investigator Award Program are given each year for only two persons in USA
The Academic Pediatric Association [APA] Young Investigator Award Program funds projects in health services research, medical education, adolescent medicine, public health, epidemiology, emergency medicine, child maltreatment, hospitalist medicine, developmental/behavioral pediatrics, and other general pediatric clinical research domains. The program awards up to $10,000 per selected project.
