Port Blair, Dec 23: To protest against the non-disbursement of wages for the month of November, 2012 to the workers working in the A & N Islands Forest & Plantation Development Corporation Ltd., a huge procession of workers was taken out in the Hut Bay bazaar on 20th December, 2012 by the Vanvikas Karmachari Sangh (CITU). In the evening, a public meeting was also held at Hut Bay.
Addressing the public meeting, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee said that while 1500 workers and employees of the Corporation are starving due to non-receipt of their monthly wages for the month of November, 2012 the Government of India which was responsible for the present condition of the said Corporation, is organizing Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign at Hut Bay. The major workforce of the Corporation is in Little Andaman. There is no meaning in organizing such campaign at a place where the workers and their family members are starving due to the inaction on the part of the same government.
The meeting was addressed among others by Mr. Y Gandhi, Vice president and Mr. C Kalimuthu, General Secretary of the VKS while Mr. Buddu Ram Munda presided over the meeting.
