Port Blair, Dec 18: 1st VPM Open Chess Tournament 2022 was organized by Revolutionary Youth Club (RYA) in collaboration with Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) at VPM Hall, Bambooflat, today, the 18th December 2022.
Mr. Yoosuf, Proprietor Jazeera Resort, hope town, Bambooflat was the chief guest for the inaugural session who made the ceremonial first move on the top boards against M Tainsh, to kick start the event.
Around 90 players have participated passionately in the tournament in which R Kashthuri Bhai, a class VIII student of GDMS Port Blair won the tournament & remained undefeated who scored 6.5 points with 6 wins and a draw in 7 rounds. P. S Satish, AAO, PFMS, PAO Port Blair secured second position, P Tata Rao, a senior chess player from Bambooflat secured third position while A Anil secured fourth position, They were awarded with Trophies, Cash Prizes. Similarly the players who secured fifth position to tenth position were awarded with cash prize,
Apart from the Open category, two best players each in boys and girls from Under 09, Under 14, fewer than 19, were also awarded with trophies and cash prizes.
Two best players from Bambooflat and Best women as well Best Veteran Players were also awarded with cash prizes.
P Tata Rao, proprietor VPM Hall was the chief guest for the closing ceremony who gave away the trophies and cash prize to the winners.
