Port Blair, Dec 04: Mr. AjoyBairagi State President BJP, A & N Islands wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary A & N Administration, Secretariat, Port Blair on 1st Dec in which he raised the issue of non-availability of hostel accommodation for the students coming from rural areas of N & M Andaman and Nicobar District.
It is infelicitous that they/the Administration is not in a position to provide hostel accommodation to the poor and deserving students who come to Port Blair for pursuing their higher education with lots of hope, aspiration and dreams in their eyes.
Referring to a few challenging problems which the Administration resolved with its immediate intervention by making stopgap measures in the past, Mr. Bairagi urged the CS to take up the matter on a similar line.
He further wrote in his letter that the entire infrastructure for ANIIMS and ANCOL was made on a war footing by making and converting various buildings of different departments on makeshift basis to establish the institutions. Since the ANIIMS has now its own permanent infrastructure, the temporary infrastructure created for it is probably under utilization or lying vacant.
Hence, the exigent task of providing accommodation to the poverty-stricken and needy students may be done by taking over the vacant / under utilized government buildings with ANIIMS, Disaster Management Dept. (New Building) and hostel facilities available with other colleges like DBRIAT, TGCE and Girls Hostel etc and also taking over the completed hostel buildings at JNRM itself, Mr. Bairagi suggested in his letter.
