Port Blair, Nov 14: Unnati organized an awareness programme for promotion of women groups i.e. SHG, JLG on 12.11.2022 at 10 AM at Bimblitan with the support of NABARD which has been widely recognized for the socio-economic condition of women. At the outset of the programmeMrs. Sarika Zilla Prishad Member welcomed the gathering and mentioned that the women group meeting was organized with the objective to strengthen women groups with the support of NABARD and Unnati.
She further said that the Govt. of India launched various projects to promote the social and economic development of women and to establish self-reliance among women groups. But the desired outcome as envisaged is not visible due to genuine problems and challenges which need to be resolved.
Mrs. C. Mohammed President Unnati while highlighting the importance of groups said that the groups are created to strengthen, articulate and empower the women members and to meet their common needs. He further said that what cannot be achieved individually often becomes possible through groups and groups of women are in a better position to voice their needs and getting benefits besides joint liability of groups enable the poor to overcome the problem of collateral security in availing loans.
He also mentioned that groups are formidable forums of interaction and groups can change the existing situation through better ways of thinking and planning. Groups also provide security, status, self esteem and power to individual members of the groups.
He also explained in detail about SHG, JLG and SHG Federation at village, Panchayat and block level. He emphasized the need for formation of Federation and suggested for formation of Federation up to Block level at the earliest to reduce dependency of groups on NGOs, officials and Bank to a great extent.
He further said if SHG Federations are formed it can procure qualitative raw materials at lower price and also undertake skill up-gradation programmes and finance to SHGs. Also discussed about PMJDY, credit linkage, loan repayment and marketing problems.
