Neil Island, Nov 11: In a commendable act, the Hawabill Nest incharge and other staffs in Neil Island have taken up initiatives to clean up all the beaches of Neil Island, viz Bharatpur, Laxmanpur and Sitapur. Though cleaning beaches is not their job but it was found that the staffs were working devotedly on the beaches after duty hours, considering this as their social responsibility.
“Two days back when I came to this beach it was full of plastic bottles. But now I can see hardly any,” Ms. Ana a tourist from Germany told our correspondent, who visited the beach recently.
This is a great effort from the side of Tourism Department to motivate their staffs to clean beaches of Neil Island. However, similar efforts must also be put in other remote Islands.
“During the off time we use clean up the beaches. Our department has also provided eco-friendly dust bins at various beaches,” the incharge of Hawbill Nest incharge, who was working with his team on the beach, told Andaman Sheekha.
It was found that the team also collected all the waste bottles in one place but sadly there was no space for them to dump or dispose those bottles.
“Administration should provide dumping ground in Neil Island or a recycling plant so that plastic bottles could be recycled,” said a villager of Sitapur Village.
The Administration must also ask the Forest Department and Panchayats to come forward and join hand with Tourism Department to keep the beaches clean.
