Port Blair, Dec 11: Indiscriminate dumping of garbage in Port Blair city has been posing a grave threat to the health of residents near area.
Huge amount of rotting garbage is being dumped on the roadside every day. Not only is this mounting trash pile an eyesore but the stench emanating from these dump sites has made it impossible for people to reside in the nearby areas in Port Blair.
“No one in the local PBMC seems to bother about this problem. The stench has become unbearable these days,” Hema Rao, a resident of New Pahargaon told Andaman Sheekha.
The dumping on the roadside has also led to stray dog menace. Dogs feast on the rotting garbage heaps, roam around the streets freely and menacingly chase the pedestrians.
Though the PBMC has constructed series of Garbage Bins but, public and shop owners, who lack civic sense, prefer to dump garbage on road side.
People urged the Secretary PBMC to intervene in the issue and instruct the officials in the local administration to prevent the dumping of garbage on the roadside
