Port Blair, Oct 11: A National Symposium on “Harmonizing Land Use for Emerging Challenges and Opportunities in the Island and Coastal Region” is jointly organized by the Andaman Science Association (ASA), ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Port Blair and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh at CIARI from 12th to 13th October 2022.
Dr. A. K. Singh, Deputy Director General, (Horticulture Science), ICAR, New Delhi has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest, Dr.Dinesh Kulkarni, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh &Dr. N.C. Gautam, Former Vice-Chancellor Mahatma Gandhi ChitrakootGramodaya Vishwavidyalaya and Chairman RAC, ICAR-CIARI will be the Guests of Honour, Dr Eaknath B. Chakurkar Director, ICAR-CIARI & President, Andaman Science Association will preside over the programme. The inaugural function will be held at 10:00 AM on 12.10.2022 at Dr. T. R. Dutta conference hall, Garacharma Research Complex of ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair. More than 150 delegates comprising of Scientists, technocrats, Change agents, including progressive farmers representing different part of Island and main land are participating in this event.
The National Symposium during two days will deliberate on Five Thematic
areas namely: 1) Land & water resources – Status and challenges to be Chaired by Mr. Dinesh Kulkarni, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh and Co-chair by Dr. A. Velmurugan, Head I/C, NRM Division, ICAR-CIARI, 2) Alternate management practices to reverse land and water resource degradation Chaired by Dr. N.C. Gautam, Former Vice-Chancellor Mahatma Gandhi ChitrakootGramodaya Vishwavidyalaya and Chairman RAC, ICAR-CIARI and Co-chair Dr. M. Ansari, PC, ICAR-IIFSR, Modipuram, 3) Emerging opportunities for sustainable land and water use chaired by Dr.Rengalakshmi, Director, MSSRF, Chennai and Co-chair Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad, 4) Challenges and experiences of farmers in land and water management use Chaired by Mr. Dinesh Kulkarni, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh and Co-chair by Dr. S. K. Zamir Ahmed, Head I/C, Social Science, ICAR-CIARI 5) Technologies and Tradition / ITK in land and water management: way forward chaired by Dr.Eaknath B Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI and Co-chair by Dr. B. Aparna, Director, OF, KAU.
The National Symposium will bring together leading scientists, land managers and progressive farmers to exchange and share their experiences and research findings on all aspects of sustainable management of soil, water and soil biodiversity. It will also provide an interdisciplinary platform to discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted for sustainable land management in the Island and coastal regions.
