Port Blair, Sep 12: Mr. D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI(M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee along with a group of party leaders on 12thSeptember 2022 met the agitating DBRAIT students at the DBRAIT gate, Dollygunj. Addressing the students, Mr. D. Ayyappan said that he had already taken up the issue of DBRAIT students with the Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar through a letter on 25th August 2022. He blamed the central government for the present state of affairs in the DBRAIT. He said that the Pondicherry University, after conducting an inspection of the DBRAIT, had sent a letter to the A & N Administration and Govt. of India about 3 years ago pointing out certain shortcomings in the functioning of the DBRAIT and asked the Administration to rectify it so that the Affiliation of DBRAIT can be renewed.
He told the students that instead of talking to the Pondicherry University authorities, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, directly under the control of the Union Home Ministry, filed a Writ Petition in the High Court against the Pondicherry University, a central university under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, for direction to quash the above instructions of the Pondicherry University. The litigation is still pending in the High Court and it may continue indefinitely.
Mr. Ayyappan told the students that the BJP-led central government should take a decision on the issues raised by the Pondicherry University and blamed the MP, former MP and BJP leadership in the islands for their inability to convince the Government of India to take a quick decision on the issue. CPI (M) leaders assured full support of the CPI (M) to the agitating students and further assured that the Party will take up the matter with the central government, CPI (M) leadership in Delhi and the central leadership of the Students Federation of India.
The other members of the CPI (M) were Mr. D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member, Mr. SP Kalairajan, State Organising Committee Member and Mr. NKP Nair, Port Blair City Area Committee Member.
