The Indian Navy is the biggest and most powerful maritime force in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The far reach and quick response to effectively deal with any emerging situation across the complete spectrum of Naval operation led by technology and professional men speaks volumes of exponential growth achieved by Indian Navy since inception. Today India is recognised as a fast growing economy and a rising power. Sustained economic growth and technological advancements over the last two decades have contributed significantly towards India achieving an increasingly bright ‘tomorrow’. The Indian Navy is one of the most potent instruments of national power, which provides an unparalleled range of options for safeguarding our maritime interests.
As a rising world power and responsible maritime nation, it becomes incumbent upon India to ensure peace and stability in the region. Towards this, the Indian Navy has been regularly conducting maritime exercises with foreign Navies as also people-to-people interaction by way of good will visits to foreign countries, while also hosting foreign Navies for bilateral exercises.
The Naval Component of Andaman and Nicobar Command has played a significant role in safeguarding the vast maritime interest of India in the Andaman Sea. With the commissioning of INS Baaz, Indian Navy has enhanced its reach in maritime reconnaissance. As a lead agency for co-ordination of various maritime missions, Indian Navy has achieved synergy in safeguarding maritime assets. Coastal security has assumed greater significance because of the threat of poachers and anti social elements in the region. With a view to strengthen the coastal security network, the Naval Component has conducted a number of coastal security exercises, regular awareness campaigns to educate the importance of coastal security in various outlying islands. The Naval ships have been in the forefront in providing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief during natural disasters and have rendered assistance to distress vessels in the region.
On this Navy Day, I extend my appreciation to all officers, sailors, civilians of the Indian Navy and their families and wish for their continued success in the future.
