Port Blair, Dec 03: A General Body meeting of the Vanvikas Karmachari Sangh (CITU) was held at Hut Bay, Little Andaman on 18th November, 2012 in which various issues of workers working in the Forest & Plantation Dev. Corporation Ltd. were discussed. The meeting expressed concern over the non-implementation of the wage agreement reached between the Union and the management of the Corporation during June, 2008 on the plea of non-clearance of the proposal by the Govt, of India.
The General Body meeting urged the Govt, of India to accord necessary approval for implementation of the wage agreement as the workers of the Corporation are still getting the wages fixed in 1994. The General Body meeting was followed by a huge procession of the workers. In the evening, a largely-attended public meeting was held at Hut Bay under the banner of CITU. Speakers in the meeting crtiticised the Cong (I)-led central government for the increasing sufferings of lower strata of the society following the sharp increase in the diesel, petrol, LPG cylinders, etc. They also lambasted the central government for its decision to do away with the statutory’ ration system in the country.
Shri B. Chanelrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee, Shri Kalimuthu, Secretary, Shri Y. Gandhi, Vice President of the Vanvikas Karmachari Sangh also addressed the public meeting. Shri Budhuram Munda presided over the meeting.
