
Port Blair, Jun 23: The Department of Rural Development, A&N Administration has been entrusted the responsibility of up-gradation of rural roads for a length of 96.647 km (48 Nos.) under PMGSY-II across South Andaman [04 packages (41.98 km -24 Nos.)] and N&M Andaman [05 packages (54.66km – 24 Nos.)].
All the 04 packages of South Andaman have been awarded to different agencies and work on package 1 & 2 has been physically commenced at the site and is presently in progress. The mobilization of resources and machineries for the remaining two packages of Little Andaman is also in progress.
The up-gradation of rural roads under PMGSY-II involves WMM, Bituminous concrete and strengthening of the shoulder on either side. The WMM for a length of 12 km is already completed and the laying of Bituminous Concrete shall be taken up in fair weather.
The timeline specified by the MoRD for the completion of the project of PMGSY-II is September 2022.
