Port Blair, Jun 23: Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) organized Andaman Nicobar State U-15 School Chess Selection Tournament 2022 in connection with the 44th Chess Olympiad on 22nd and 23rd June 2022 at JNRM College Auditorium, Port Blair.
Record-breaking participation of More than 200 school children of different schools in Andaman participated enthusiastically in the two-day state-level chess tournament which was held in rapid format over 9 rounds.
Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman) was the chief guest of the opening ceremony who made the first move on the top board to kick start the event on 22nd June 2022 in presence of Commandant Sriman Narayan of the Indian Coast Guard who graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
The two-day mega chess event was concluded today evening with a prize distribution ceremony in which Mr. VRV Murthy, Principal JNRM was the chief guest while Mr. Dakshin, Director, TSG Hotels and Resort was the guest of honour who gave the trophies and certificates to the winners.
The top 25 players in each Boys and Girls were awarded trophies and certificates apart from the two best players from the U-11, U-9, and U- 7 categories.
Sanyash Jindal of Carmel Sr. Sec School Port Blair was the winner of the tournament who scored 8.5 points out of 9 rounds while Yuvan Singh of Carmel Sr. Sec. school was the runner-up who scored 8 points out of 9 rounds in the boys’ category.
In the girls’ category, Kashthuri Bhai of GDMS was the winner who scored 9 points out of 9 rounds while Tanisha Raj of VKV Lambaline stood second and scored 8 points out of 9 rounds.
The winner and runner up as well as one best player each from boys and girls of Govt School will get the golden opportunity to visit the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 scheduled to be held from 28th July to 10th August 2022 at Mahabalipuram, Chennai. They will be extended 03 nights stay free of cost to witness the 44th Chess Olympiad. In addition, an amount of ₹ 3,000/- will be reimbursed as travel expenses.
