Port Blair, April 12: People in and around TTI, Water Treatment plant area of Garacharma, are grappling with low voltage problems recently.
As per the information received, people of the region are witnessing frequent voltage fluctuation in the area which is causing serious damage to electric appliances. The minimum voltage required for proper operation of most of the electrical appliances is 200-220 volts but in the said area only 147 volts of electricity is being provided, a resident alleged. The resident has also taken several pictures of voltage readings taken in the area.
While people living in most of the parts of Port Blair city are complaining about frequent power cuts during the entire day time, low voltage issue of around TTI, Water Treatment plant area of Garacharma shows that how the Department of Electricity has failed to address the genuine problems being faced by the residents of South Andaman region.
While the Administration is planning to transform the Andaman and Nicobar Islands into a smart city it seems that the Electricity Department wants to shatter the dream by such an unprofessional approach.
“We have complained regarding this issue but no one is really bothered to listen to our problems,” said a resident of the area, who does not want his name to be quoted.
When contacted, a senior officer of Electricity Department told Andaman Sheekha Daily that as the transformer of the area has suffered some damages, there is an issue of low voltage in the area.
He said that a proposal for a new transformer has been already given to the Administration and once the proposal is approved then the transformer will be installed immediately and the problem will be solved, the Senior Officer added.
