Port Blair, April 04: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has once again highlighted the unemployment problem of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in Parliament.
Highlighting this issue during the Budget Session of Parliament today Mr. Kudeep Rai Sharma said that on 14 December 2021 the Andaman and Nicobar Administration had issued an order to fill up all vacant posts in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
The Member of Parliament during the session requested the Government of India to issue directions to the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to fill up nearly 10,000 vacant posts as early as possible, as lakhs of unemployed youths in A & N Islands are struggling to get a government job.
He also urged the government to stop online recruitment because unemployment is a major issue in these Islands.
Regarding generating jobs through Palm Oil Cultivation, he said that recently the government has made a financial outlay of Rs.11,040 crore for Palm Oil Cultivation and Under this scheme, it is proposed to cover an additional area of 6.5 lakh hectare (ha.) for oil palm.
The Member of Parliament informed the Parliament that Palm Oil Cultivation was started by the Government of India in Little Andaman Island of Andaman and Nicobar Island in 1978 and in November 2017 the Palm Oil plantation was closed.
He urged the Government to restart Palm Oil Cultivation in Little Andaman under this scheme so that thousands of unemployed youth of Vivekanda Pur, Rabindra Nagar, Ram Krishna Pur, Netaji Nagar and Hut Bay get employment.
Regarding the unemployment issue of Long Island the Member of Parliament said that in 1956 boat building work was started at Long Island but the project was later closed. He requested the government to start boat building at Long Island so that the unemployment problem of Long Island can be solved.
Earlier also on several occasions the Member of Parliament had highlighted the issue of growing unemployment in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and demanded filling up of all vacant posts and conducting all recruitment in totally offline mode.
