Port Blair, Apr 03: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM) attached to Directorate of RD, PRI’s and ULB’s, A&N Administration, Port Blair organized a two- days ‘SHG Mela’ at Marina Park from 02nd April to 03rd April 2022.
The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. JitendraNarain attended the exhibition and encouraged the participant members of DAY-NRLM Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Members of 40 Self Help Groups formed under DAY-NRLM in the South Andaman district participated in the sale of their products such as Handicrafts made of Coconut Shell, Bamboo and Cane, Ladies’ Hand Bag, pearl products, Coir Products, Decorative door hangings made of wool, Bakery products, Embroided Table cloths, Fish Pickle, Honey, local Spices, Foot Mats made of waste cloths, Vegetables and farm products, etc.
Several food stalls were also kept by the SHG members which caught the attention of most of the visitors. The Chief Secretary appreciated the efforts of SHG members for the advancement of their livelihood through small economic activities.
He directed the Rural Development Department to organize such exhibitions regularly to provide marketing opportunities for the SHGs. He also suggested developing a group of SHGs for the marketing of products made by other SHGs.
The “SHG Mela” has drawn a lot of public attention and people were seen thronging the stall to purchase local handmade products. The platform provided to the Self Help Groups turned out to be a great way to enhance the rural economy.
