Port Blair, Feb 20: The government of India is celebrating a year-long programme ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to pay homage and showcase India’s achievements in 75 years of Independence. As part of this, the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) and Ministry of Culture, Government of India in association with Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India will celebrate 22nd February to 28th February 2022 as the glorious week called Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate (in Sanskrit, which means Science and Technology is revered all over).
The Science Week Festival will be conducted at 75 locations and the Zoological Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre, Port Blair is an organizing partner for the UT of A&N Islands for organizing this seven-day event in Islands.
Dr. C. Sivaperuman, Scientist-E & Officer-in-Charge, ZSI informed that the Science Week Festival will be conducted at 75 locations.
He expressed happiness that the Zoological Survey of India is one of the 75 prestigious centres chosen from across the country to host this National Science Week Festival.
Four themes are identified by the Government of India for the week-long celebration viz. Annals of Science, milestones of Modern S&T, Swadeshi Paramparik Inventions & Innovations and Transforming India.
The Science Week Festival will be conducted at 75 locations through which a total of 75 Expositions, 75 Lectures, 75 Films, 75 Radio Talks, 75 Science Literary activities, 75 Books, 75 Posters, 75 Awards through hybrid mode would be made possible.
As part of the celebrations, the ANRC/ZSI will have 22 lectures delivered by eminent scientists under various themes, films, radio talks, poster displays, book fairs to showcase titles related to science, innovations, biographies of scientists and India’s freedom struggle.
On 26th February 2022, various schools/colleges will be participating in various events such as skit, poem recitation, poem writing, drawing, and rangoli.
Apart from Port Blair, the week-long festival will be organised in other parts of the A&N Islands, i.e. Car Nicobar, Great Nicobar, Rangat (Middle Andaman), Mayabunder (North & Middle Andaman), Diglipur (North Andaman) for the benefit of students and teachers.
Students from Schools, Colleges, and Research Institutions will participate in various competitions conducted during the week-long festival.
