Port Blair, Jan 18: At this time, when people are already facing a hard time due to the third wave of COVID-19 in these Islands, the soaring prices of essential commodities and other perishable items in Little Andaman has doubled their woes.
To a large extent the residents of Little Andaman are dependent on the vegetables and essential commodities which come from Port Blair. Even vegetables, which are grown locally, are slowly going beyond the reach of the common man.
“The demand for the vegetables and other essential commodities is more in respect of the supply. We have to pay a heavy amount to fulfill our basic needs,” a resident of Hutbay alleged.
However, to overcome the situation and to fix the price of essential commodities, the Circle Officer (CS & CA) Tehsilder of Little Andaman has issued an order in which he has called a meeting where prices of essential commodities and vegetables and other perishable items will be fixed.
The Cultivator of vegetables, fish, chicken, milk, and the vegetable vendor has been called on 22.01.2022 (Friday) at 10:00 AM at EOC Hall, Tehsil Office regarding high prices of vegetables, fish, chicken, and milk at Little Andaman and to fix the price of essential commodities.
All Cultivators of Vegetables, fish, chicken, milk, and vegetable vendors of Hut Bay, Netaji Nagar, R. K. Pur, V. K. Pur, and Rabindra Nagar have also been asked to attend the meeting without fail, the order stated.
