Port Blair, Jan 19: A semi RCC house gutted to a large extend this afternoon at Haddo area near Telugu Medium School. The fire was reported at around 03.10 PM.
According to reports, the house owner went to Mainland leaving his son behind. The fire reportedly erupted when there was no one in the house. On report, Fire Service Tenders and Bowser reached the spot and controlled the fire within one hour.
Sources said Fire Tenders from Chatham and Haddo reached the spot first but with only one staff each due to shortage of staffs and proper fire fighting began when fire tenders with more staffs reached the Fire accident site. More than 60 percent house is reportedly gutted and there was huge other collateral damages too.
But due to timely intervention of Fire Services, the spread of fire to the nearby heavily congested area could be averted. The cause of the fire is believed to be short circuit.
