Port Blair, Jan 13: Mr Vishal Jolly National Executive Member BJP & Former State President BJP-ANI and Member Home Ministry Advisory Committee demanded relaxation in lockdown norms for opening of temples to enable devotees perform religious rituals on the occasion of “Pongal” and “Makar Sankranti” that falls on 14th & 15th January 2022.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Mr Jolly said that Pongal is a multi-day Hindu harvest festival especially for South Indian people and the Makar Sankranti is regarded as important for spiritual practices and accordingly, people go to temples to offer prayers, both festivals are considered highly auspicious for Hindu community and people visit temples where a special Pujas were performed to commemorate the day. He requested the Chief Secretary to give relaxation in lockdown norms for opening of temples to Hindus to carry out religious Puja on 14th & 15th January 2022 from 06.00 AM to 11.00 AM.
