Port Blair, Oct 18: Two girl students of JNRM (2nd Year), who reached Port Blair from Shaheed Dweep this evening, after Durga Puja Holiday, were made to stand outside the JNRM Girls’ hostel for nearly two hours, with their luggage, as the warden of the JNRM hostel refused to give entry to them inside the hostel.
While the warden said that due to cancellation of regular (offline) classes of the concerned students they will not be given entry inside hostel, the girl students claimed that they have not been informed about cancellation of regular (offline) classes.
When the matter was communicated to the NSUI unit of Andaman and Nicobar Islands the president of NSUI, A & N Islands, Mr. M A Sajid reached the gate of JNRM Girls’ Hostel and tried to resolve the issue but the warden refused to give entry to the girls. As per details, Mrs. Zubaida Begum President of Mahila Mandal also reached the spot to help the students.
Later when the Editor of Andaman Sheekha Daily called up the Principal of JNRM, Dr. Hemant Kumar Sharma, he immediately directed the hostel warden to provide accommodation to the girls. After intervention of the principal the girl students were finally given entry inside the hostel at nearly 9.15 PM. The girls were made to stand outside the hostel since nearly 6.30 PM.
The Principal of JNRM told Andaman Sheekha that regular (offline) classes of the girl students are not being conducted and necessary information was communicated to the students, but Andaman Sheekha got update that the message of cancellation of offline class was update in students’ whatsapp group only on this evening.
This is clearly a case of miscommunication regarding conduct of online and offline classes but in any case if girl students reach Port Blair from remote Islands, the college authorities can’t refuse to give entry to the girls in the girls’ hostel. How can college authorities expect girls to roam in road in search for accommodation, many girls coming from remote Islands are from poor background and can’t afford rooms in hotels or lodges, which is also unsafe for them.
