Port Blair, Aug 24: A&N UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights (UTCPCR) functioning in the islands is a statutory body constituted under CPCR Act 2005 to protect and safeguard child rights and other related matters in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Commission is further mandated to ensure proper implementation of the provisions of POCSO Act 2012, JJ (care and protection of children) Act 2015 and Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009.
In this regard member of the Commission Smt. Neeta Agrawal visited Govt. Sr. Secondary School, Bathu basti, and GSSS Garacharma on 18.08.2021 and 23.08.2021 respectively to ascertain on ground compliance to Covid-19 safety guidelines for the children going back to school after a long period of school closures due to pandemic.
During her visit she interacted with the children, teachers and School officials on duty .It was observed that all the basic Covid-19 safety measures were being followed by the school authorities and students ( class9,10, 11and 12) in general were happy to come back to school and resume their classes after a long gap. On being asked to share their experience about online mode of learning at home during school closures most of them said that poor network beyond the Port Blair municipal area posed as an obstacle to learning. Some had problems in accessing the devices like smart phone. Children on the whole appeared to be relieved to come back to their classes with other children and teachers around
