Port Blair, Aug 22: The Victory Flame of Swarnim Vijay Varsh which commenced it’s journey from Port Blair on 03 Aug 21 to various Islands of Andaman and Nicobar archipelago finally arrived at Great Nicobar Island on 21 Aug 21 onboard Indian Navy LCU-58, accompanied bu INS Saryu. Prior to its arrival to this southernmost landmass of sovereign India, a series of events were conducted at Campbell Bay involving military personnel, civil population and veterans, are echoing the massage of patriotism and solidarity. Two spots events and an awareness campaign on Swarnim Vijay Varsh were collectively conducted by INS Baaz and Campbell Bay Police on 19 and 20 Aug 21.
The Victory Flame was received at the jetty by Commanding officer INS Baaz from CO Indian Navy LCU-58 with full military honours. It was thereafter carried in the escort vehicle through the arterial civil road of Campbell Bay with a stopover at the Cricket Ground, thus enabling the local populace to portake this proud and historic moment.
In a spectacular ceremony to commemorate the Swarnim Vijay Diwas and the arrival of the pious Victory Flame at the Island, a Guard of Honour was presented at India’s southernmost airstation INS Baaz. This was attended by all defence personnel in the station, school children, NCC cadets and veterans. Wreaths were laid by Commanding Officers, Assistant Commissioner and DSP Campbell Bay and Veterans of the 1971 War residing on the Islands. Two veterans of 1971 war, namely Captain Shetty (Retd) and Havildar Murat Singh Rawat (Retd) addressed the gathering and reminisced their days on the battlefields. The school children also paid tribute to the war-veterans by singing a patriotic song.
This historic event which symbolises the decisive Victory of our country in 1971 Indo-Pak war and liberation of Bangladesh witnessed enthusiasm participation by residents at Campbell Bay.
