Port Blair, Nov 01: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has imposed blanket from today on sale, storage, distribution and manufacture gutkha, panmasala and allied products containing tobacco and nicotine as ingredients by whatsoever name available in the market.
“The prohibition will be effected under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, Rules and Regulation 2011 from Nov. 1, 2012 onwards,” an official caution of A & N Administration recently.
Different teams have already been set up to check sale, storage, distribution and manufacture gutkha, panmasala and allied products containing tobacco and nicotine in these Islands by the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, to spreads awareness students of Mahatama Gandhi International School today organized Anti-Gutkha Campaign at Port Blair, the capital city of A & N Islands.
Mr. Rakesh Bali, the Secretary of Port Blair Municipal Council inaugurated the Gutkha Campaign by tying a red- ribbon in the tree of Pledges.
The Secretary appreciated children for being part of Anti-Drug Campaign to kick out Gutkha, Drugs, Cigarettes, Tambakku from these Islands.
Students also made a human chain to express their solidarity towards the campaign.
A Thank You March with banners and placards, by the students and staffs of MGIS was also conducted at Aberdeen Bazar. Thank you cards were also distributed to the shopkeepers for not selling Guthka and anti elements to the students and their friends.
