Port Blair, May 21: As per a press release of IMD, advance of Southwest monsoon into some parts of south Bay of Bengal, South Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands and some parts of North Andaman Sea is noted.
“Likely formation of a low pressure area over eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea on 22nd May and its intensification into a Cyclonic Storm,” the release added.
On 22nd May Heavy to very heavy rain (7-20cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman Islands. Heavy rain (7-11cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Nicobar Islands and Thunderstorm with lightning & gusty wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) likely to occur over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
On 23rd May heavy rain (7-11cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Thundersquall with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph likely to occur over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Due to onset of Southwest Monsoon over South Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay of Bengal, wind speed is likely to exceed 45 kmph from today, 21″ May. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea from 21 May till further information.
