
Port Blair, Apr 13: The A & N Administration is putting its best effort to protect the Islanders and curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus in A&N Islands. Addressing a press conference today in the conference hall of IP&T, the Secretary, IP&T, Shri Sunil Kumar Singh remarked that it is the collective responsibility of everyone to motivate the citizens aged 45 plus to come forward and get the vaccination at their nearest Vaccination Centres. Doctors from GB Pant Hospital viz. Dr. Munni Singhania, Deputy Director, Medical and Dr. Amitabha De, Deputy Director, Malaria were present during the press conference.
The Secretary said, “Carelessness, negligence & irresponsible behavior will put all in adverse situation. Come, let us keep Corona in check & let us keep our figures down”. He further appealed to the beneficiaries in the age group of 45 plus to voluntarily come forward and get themselves vaccinated. This he said will not only safeguard their lives but ultimately protect their family members too. He urged the general public to follow all COVID- appropriate behavior for their safety and the safety of their family and the society as well. People should remain indoors if there is no urgent work, he said adding that people should minimize their visit to market places, stop unwanted movements and act as responsible citizens.
The Secretary said that the officials of Administration, Policemen, Aganwadi Workers and others are reaching out to the doorsteps of the people and pleading beneficiaries above 45 plus to get vaccinated. Citizens should adhere to their requests and get the vaccination at the earliest, the Secretary appealed. He said, due to the collective effort of all, there is an overwhelming response to the ‘Tika Utsav’ currently underway in different parts of these Islands. The vaccination data reveals that the effort of Administration has yielded result and so far has been a great success, the Secretary added.
The Secretary informed that flying teams were also constituted which administered the vaccination to the eligible beneficiaries in far flung Islands too. He further stated that a dedicated vessel with Health Team has reached Chowra Island and vaccinated the eligible persons there.
Dr. Amitabha De and Dr. Munni Singhania also briefed media persons. Dr. Munni Singhania informed that altogether 75 teams have been constituted and 30 Centres have been earmarked for the smooth conduct of vaccination in the Islands. Runny nose, 7 days continuous fever, breathing difficulty and loose motion are the symptoms being observed these days pertaining to COVID-19, she added.
The Director, IP&T, Shri Alok Kumar and the Deputy Director, IPP&T, Shri RS Meena were also present on the occasion.
