Port Blair, Oct 21: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC today has recorded gratitude to the Prime Minister of India and Home Minister of India for waiving the loans of 370 Tusnami hit fishermen of AN Islands and the interest accrued on such loans for which Mr. Sharma has requested to the Home Minister on the 3rd September, 2012.
Mr. Sharma has also recorded his sincere thanks to the AN Administration for taking initiative to this effect. Mr. Sharma has said that he is happy that the fishermen community have been awarded Natural justice by the Congress lead UPA Government.
The Union Cabinet on 18th October had approved for the proposal to waive the loan plus the amount of interest thereon for the 370 tsunami-affected fishermen that is outstanding on the date of settlement and to reimburse the same to concerned banks.
As on 31-03-2012, tsunami affected fishermen of Andaman and Nicobar Islands had outstanding loans plus interest thereon amounting to Rs. 2.10 crore and the amount outstanding at the time of settlement will be reimbursed to the concerned banks.
About 370 tsunami-affected fishermen of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be benefited.
