Port Blair, Mar 14: A mass Beach cleaning drive was organized by Dept. of RD & Panchayat along with Department of Fisheries and volunteers of Hindu Rasthra Shakti at Guptapara, Wandoor in South Andaman District and Billiground in North & Middle Andaman District. This drive got a mass support and appreciation from the villagers of these areas.
In the drive people from all walks of life like the residents, self help group, government servants, fishermen and Volunteers of Hindu Rashtra Shakti participated and cleaned the areas in and around the villages including the Fish landing centre and Sea shore of wandoor. The garbage mostly which comprised plastic bottles, tyres etc were collected in separate bags and handed over to the Panchayat Secretary for proper disposal. Shri Vinay Kumar Jindal, Director (RD/PRI & ULBs) personally visited the mega cleaning camp in Guptapara and appreciated the volunteers for their selfless efforts to make the society clean.
Dr Utpal Kumar Sar, Director (Fisheries) too visited the mega cleaning camp at Wandoor. Around 155 volunteers from Hindu Rasthra Shakti participated in these drives at Guptapara and Wandoor and made it a grand success.
Same initiative was also carried out in Billiground, where the market place was cleaned by around 60 volunteers of Hindu Rasthra Shakti under the aegis of Directorate of RD.
The RD Department has been regularly conducting such clean up drives under SBM -G mission with an aim to achieve #ZeroWasteAndamans in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Secretary (RD) expressed gratitude to all people participating in such drives and exhorted more people and Civil Society Organizations to join in the mission so that not only the places are cleaned but people also start considering #OurIslands as #OurResponsibility, then only will we be able to preserve the pristine beauty of our Islands.
